There are some misconceptions when it comes to gun laws as to what you can do and what you can't and registering a firearm. Hopefully, I can clear some of these up.

In the State of NORTH CAROINA:

1) A gun is not registered with the Sheriffs Office.
2) You obtain a PURCHASE permit and that is kept by the dealer/seller when you buy a pistol/handgun.
3) If you are NOT a CCW Permit holder and carrying a firearm in your vehicle, leave it plain view when you are in the vehicle.
4) If you are stopped by LEO, do NOT reach for the gun. Tell the officer as they approach that you have a firearm and where it is.
5) If you are NOT a CCW Permit holder,  a PURCHASE permit is required for each gun sold.
6) If you ARE a CCW Permit holder, you can buy a firearm using your CCW Permit.
7) CCW Permit Laws vary from State to State. North Carolina recognizes several states CCW Permitas and visa versa. CHECK the laws before traveling through other states.
